FAQ

Should the applicant from a non-Dutch university attach the letter of recommendation to the application himself/herself, or should the referee send the letter of recommendation directly to NIAS?
The application procedure states that the letter by a professional referee should be attached to the application. However, if you prefer your referee to send the letter directly to NIAS please advise to do so. The letter should be sent digitally to Application@nias.knaw.nl stating the name of the applicant in the subject field.

The application procedure states that the supporting letter for an application by a scholar from a non-Dutch university should be by an internationally known scholar affiliated with a Dutch university or research institute. I do not know such a scholar. Is this a requirement?
No, it is advised to attach a letter of support but this is not a requirement.

What is the best way to send the supporting letter? As a pdf-document or a paper version?
The letter should be sent digitally. So either a pdf or a Word document is fine.
